Next step in planning process for SIMTA intermodal terminal

Tactical Group, on behalf of Qube is Project Managing the proposed SIMTA (Sydney Intermodal Terminal Alliance) Intermodal Facility located at Moorebank, NSW.

Environmental Assessment requirements have been issued for the first stage of the SIMTA intermodal terminal at Moorebank – the next step in the planning process for the project.

The Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARS), issued by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, set out a number of conditions SIMTA must meet in the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement for the first stage of the project.

This followed approval in September, by the Planning Assessment Commission, of the concept plan application for the construction of a port shuttle intermodal terminal and associated warehousing on the SIMTA site at Moorebank.

Steve Ryan, Director of Tactical Group said “The issue of SEARS for the project is another important milestone in the planning approval process, it is a testament to the hard work of the project team and its ongoing commitment to turning this critically important infrastructure development into reality”.

In October 2014, SIMTA submitted to the Department of Planning and Environment a request to obtain Environmental Assessment Requirements for the construction of Stage 1 of the SIMTA Concept Plan Approval, which includes the rail link and intermodal terminal.

Separately, SIMTA has reached an agreement for the SIMTA site and the adjacent Federal Government owned site to be combined and developed by SIMTA as a single integrated precinct.

Should this agreement be approved by the Federal Government, the first stage of the SIMTA site will also become the first stage of an integrated precinct.
